High Speed Meeting at De Luz VFD this coming Tuesday at 2pm.

All,

I'm meeting with a guy that brought high speed to Rainbow. He guarantees 2Meg upload/download. The cost is a one time installation of $100 and $69 a month no cap on the amount of data you download.

Here is the rub. In order for this to work he is going to need to access to high points in our community.

Please let me know if you're interested.

Thanks

Good Afternoon Everyone!
I'm very excited to be meeting with TJ on Tuesday at 2pm.  We'll be discussing what it takes to bring High Speed Internet service over into DeLuz Canyon!  You can find information about my business over at: http://1on1communications.com

Our technology relies on an unobstructed line-of-sight between radio units, operating in the 2.4GHz and 5.GHz wireless spectrum.  Radio waves in these frequencies do not travel well through trees or other obstructions.  Not all customers must have line of sight to a radio repeater, however.  Line of sight to another customer can accomplish the same task, which makes growing our network a bit easier.

At present, the closest radio repeater station I have deployed is overlooking I-15 on the West side, on Lookout Mountain Road, adjacent to two water towers visible from Rainbow Oaks just East of the highway.  I've been examining DeLuz Canyon in Google Earth this afternoon - and it looks like elevation is THE name of the game for bringing service further West quickly.

I began my assessment from the vicinity of Ross Lake which has an elevation of about 871 feet, working my way back towards the closest radio.  There are properties just to the East and slightly South of Ross Lake that clock in around 1400 feet in elevation.  The full distance to the Lookout Mountain repeater is 10 kilometers, well within the 15km limit on my radios, at a relative bearing of 100 degrees.  (Not quite due East.)  Roughly 1/3 of the distance, we run into another peak with approximately 1430 feet in elevation.

Off the top of my head, I'd say this peak at 1430 feet elevation is the primary potential road block to bringing service into DeLuz quickly.  I can place a multi-radio repeater in this location to overcome the issue, but must admit in all candor I'm far from effective at pointing at a piece of property, and determining who owns it - I'll be relying on the community a great deal to make introductions.

There are some technical issues at play as well.  My radio units don't use very much power, but perform a great deal better when operating from grid power.  We have a single solar powered radio installation high above Mountain Rim Road in Rainbow, that has had its share of issues over the past couple of months.  Newly installed gear hopefully has assuaged those issues.  We can certainly go solar again, but presents a substantial increase in build-out investment to ensure 100% functionality, so I'll opt to avoid it where I can.  (Solar gear also looks "juicy" to folks with less than honorable intentions, and it's hard to babysit in remote locations.)

Anyway - Internet comments generally shouldn't be four times the size of the post they're attached to so I'll leave you with these items to chew on:

Moving into a new coverage area, I prefer to meet property owners at the highest elevations.  By virtue of location, sight lines, and electricity present, a very select one or two such property owners may be offered my "standard  exchange package" which boils down to, "I'll provide you with free, unlimited Internet perpetually in exchange for permission to mount a 20'-30' pole in concrete with a small radio (or radios) attached, and modest electrical service at your location to further serve your community."

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to meeting all of you!

Sincerely,

Dustin Decker

Howdy Everyone!

TJ Lynas and I missed each other on Tuesday by about a half an hour - but it turned out for the better with the rain and fog limiting visibility a great deal.  We got together on Friday afternoon instead.

TJ and I scouted a location at around 1400 feet elevation that turns out to have an uninhibited line of sight back to several of the multi-radio repeater stations I have deployed in Rainbow.  The property owners involved are very excited about the potential to leave satellite communications behind, and I'll be performing signal testing on Sunday to determine link quality, which is to say... to find out if I need to deploy some additional gear in Rainbow to strengthen the signal into DeLuz.  Either way, from this location I can CERTAINLY bring dedicated connectivity to the Fiber Optics our company has terminated in Rainbow!

I've posted a rudimentary elevation map at the following link (and I realize it's zoomed in to a very small area for detail - our coverage area will be MUCH larger):

http://1on1communications.com/images/DeLuz2.PNG

Homes located within the blue circles will be able to receive our service right away.  Bear in mind: if your home doesn't fall within these blue circles that's OK.  Each new customer radio we deploy extends the range of our service to still more customers.  (So for example, Suzy Smith may not be able to get service today because a 1200 foot mountain is between her and the closest radio.  Her house has a line of sight to her neighbor Tom Jones, who does have an appropriate view.  Tom signs up for service, and once his radio is installed, Suzy can also obtain service.) Note the black shaded areas - these are radio "shadows" created by a mountain or other naturally occurring presence.  Homes in these shadows will need some "help" to get service.

I'll be working to bring a minimum of 5.0Mbps service into DeLuz with my first repeater station, and even higher speeds moving forward.  This level of service is well suited for streaming on-line video (such as Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and supports technologies such as VoIP.  MagicJack, Vonage, Skype and other forms of telephony work flawlessly with our service.

Our robust network transferred nearly 300 gigabytes of data over the past seven days!

 -----

I will post another update after signal testing is completed on Sunday the 9th.  In the mean time, here are some additional details for your consideration:

-1 On 1 Communications will charge $100.00 to perform installation at your location, as well as $69.99 for your first month of service.  1 On 1 Communications retains "ownership" of your customer premise equipment (CPE) radio unit, will provide service of the radio, and replacement under warranty in required.

-Customers execute a short 6 month contract with 1 On 1 Communications LLC, which becomes a month-to-month engagement thereafter.  Customers who have fulfilled their contract may take advantage of our referral program, receiving a free month of service for each newly referred customer who receives installation.

-Customers currently utilizing a satellite provider for the Internet can take advantage of our "Dump the Dish" program to offset the expense of breaking their contract. (Details: http://1on1communications.com/node/12)

-1 On 1 Communications does not impose data caps or limits.

-Our "average" customer consumes between 3.55GB and 15GB of data per month.

-Our "heaviest" use customers consume between 10.5GB and 90GB of data per month.
